Traditional kitchens are indeed a classic style. These are special kitchens that are timeless and we never get tired of looking at them or being in them. They are one, if not the most, favorite room in our home.
Your definition of what traditional kitchens are may be different than the next person. Just about any home can accommodate this style of kitchen. There are actually a number of traditional styles that can be chosen to grace your home.
There is the Early American, the Victorian, Neoclassical, Georgian, Federal or the Regency that are all considered traditional. To make it simpler, traditional is basically any style that you might find in the 18th, 19th or the early part of the 20th century.
The color palette of a traditional kitchen is typically more neutral and soft but a pop of color doesn’t hurt the overall look. More natural colors like whites and creams, light browns and light grays are often used to enhance the kitchen’s overall look. However, there are also traditional kitchens that have a darker color palette and are still just as inviting.
The materials that can be used are various woods, stones, and brick. The patterns are typically those that are simple but add a unique look such as basket weave or tiles that are set at an angle. The fabrics used will be solid or simple stripes and should not overpower the overall look of the kitchen. The hardware can be in any number of colors, materials or shapes and should not conflict with the theme of the kitchen.
If you want to add that element of surprise, which you should, there are a number of items that you can incorporate to make your kitchen unique. Materials such as bamboo flooring, rattan seating, stainless steel accessories or wrought iron light fixtures can add that extra touch you are looking for.
All of the cabinetry, the appliances and every other aspect that is used to create a traditional kitchen should blend smoothly together and create a warm and inviting room. The end result is why traditional kitchens are probably the most popular type today. It is not just a kitchen where you fix meals but a room where you share and create memories with family and friends.
While one or more is busy preparing a snack or meal, there is generally ample seating at the counter or island. There can also be a nook just off to the side where others can gather. You may find additional storage with a butler’s or walk-in pantry included in the kitchen.
Depending upon the space that the kitchen is to be located in will determine the layout. Lighting is also important there are usually large windows or other forms of lighting that provide amble task and ambiance lighting. Whether the kitchen has an open concept or not, it is certainly a room that you won’t want to leave.
Creating the kitchen of your dreams doesn’t have to be expensive and you can still have a number of features to make it the kitchen you need and want in your home. Traditional kitchens are a room that we will remember for years to come and want in every home we have.
